Le Charm’s Lack of Charm

I was excited to find a restaurant like Le Charm in SOMA that offered a menu of French bistro-style dishes. Unfortunately, the place turned out to be a little disappointing. It’s a small space and half the restaurant is actually a heated tent, so depending on where you sat, you would be freezing your butt off from the cold outside. It does have a romantic vibe though, so it would be nice place to bring a date (as long as you and your date don’t care about the food and just want to stare into each other’s eyes all night.) They offer a $30 prix-fixe menu so that is pretty nice, but I decided to go a la carte. I ordered the smoked salmon appetizer and duck confit for my main course. Although the smoked salmon was a little on the oily side, it wasn’t too bad…. But there was something about it that just didn’t taste as fresh. I can’t really place it. The biggest disappointment of the night was the duck confit. It was way overcooked, dry, and completely lacked flavor. Sad, very sad.
