Pancho Villa

One of the best finds in Downtown San Mateo after Sushi Sam’s has to be Pancho Villa. In fact, Pancho Villa might have a slight edge just because it’s so cheap and doesn’t have the long wait that you often find at Sushi Sam. Hehe!
I absolutely love the Agua Fresca. It’s so flavorful, unlike a lot of the agua frescas I’ve had at a few other places where it is always watered down. So sad. This is the pineapple one, but I’ve had the strawberry one as well and it’s equally good. Another good thing is that Pancho Villa has a fresh salsa bar. It seems so simple… salsa. However, there is just something about the one they have here. I just want to scoop mounds of it on to tortilla chips and wolf it down like cookie monster.

Now Pancho Villa’s true “piece de resistance” is the shrimp taco. It is so buttery and garlicy… it’s absolutely the BEST shrimp taco I’ve ever had. In fact, I’m always tempted to get 3, but I don’t… and I end up being perfectly satisfied with the 2, especially after I fill up on the chips and salsa. The shrimps are just the right size and usually come 3 or 4 per taco. Keep in mind, I haven’t traditionally been the most avid Mexican food lover. Hence, my experience with Mexican food is somewhat limited, but I really, really LOVE these shrimp tacos. I highly recommend this place!
