With a newly purchased Groupon, Pdho and I invited my cousin and her family to dinner at Grill’Em which is just a couple minutes from their house in Campbell. It sounded like a different concept, a steakhouse where you get to grill your own meat.
After perusing the menu, I noticed it was a pretty simple and straightforward. There were 4-6 different types of steak to choose from and variety of different sides. Even without the Groupon, the prices weren’t too unreasonable for steak. It ranged from an 8 oz Top Sirloin for $11.50 to a 12 oz Rib Eye for $16.95 to an 8 oz Filet Mignon for $19.95. Not bad really. Okay, maybe the steak isn’t Wagyu or Kobe quality, but it’s actually pretty decent.
We ended up ordering the Rib Eye and the New York Strip, along with a couple of different sides to share with everyone. We got some corn on the cob, garlic fries and onion strings. The sides were kind of small in portion, but they tasted fine. The corn was a little bland though.
Even though the appeal of the whole meal was the opportunity to grill our own meat, we decided to let my cousin’s husband be grill master. He actually knows how to grill meat, so considering we were so hungry, I didn’t want to risk my meat getting over cooked. I took care of the garlic bread which comes with each steak.
The steaks turned out pretty good. My cousin’s husband did a good job grilling (as you can see by the nice grill marks), and even though I just grilled the garlic bread, I still think the experience was kind of fun.
Aside from steaks, they offer burgers, sandwiches, and salads as well. So even if you’re not interested in cooking your own meal, there are options for you. I would definitely recommend the place if you’re wanting a more hands on dining experience, but it seems like a good option as a normal restaurant. All in all, the food was decent, the prices are reasonable, and it’s absolutely good for kids and families.
