Turtle Tower Again

I had been craving Turtle Tower for awhile now especially after our attempt that one time was denied when we arrived and realized that they closed at 7pm.  Anyways, the craving was too much to bear so we decided to venture to the Tenderloin and it happened to be right after the end of the World Cup Finals.  Turns out there is a viewing area set up in Civic Center, so there were noticeably more people in the area than I would have expected for the weekend.  As usual, there was still a number of people waiting to be seated at Turtle Tower.

Bun Cha Ha Noi - Grill Pork with Vermicelli

We ordered the Pho Ga aka Chicken Pho as we did last time, but we also wanted to try something different so we got the Bun Cha Ha Noi as well. This is grilled pork patties and sliced pork that comes in a fish flavor-like sauce.  It is eaten with vermicelli noodles, lettuce, mint and cilantro. Personally, I stay away from the mint and cilantro, but they are supposed to add a lot of flavor to the dish.  It tasted really good.  The meat is well flavored and very authentic.  It’s been really hard to find good authentic-tasting Vietnamese food up here, and especially challenging in San Francisco, but I’ve really been pleased with Turtle Tower.  It’s the closest thing, in my opinion, to the Vietnamese food you could find down in Orange County.
