It’s really problematic when I get off in Mountain View, because Pdho really doesn’t like a lot of the food along Castro St. I agree the food at most of the restaurants have been just so so, and there seems to be a plethora of 3-3 1/2 star restaurants around the immediate Downtown Mountain View, very few of which seem that appetizing. Maybe it’s just me. Anyways, I ended up finding Shana Thai which had 4 stars and over 200 reviews. It was located in a random strip mall just a few minutes from Castro.
The Green Curry Roti was good. The roti wasn’t light and flaky like the Singaporean roti, but it was more similar to a green onion pancake. The green curry was a little bit thin and watery in consistency, but the taste was there.
I really love pad see ew, and this version with prawns didn’t fail to satisfy my taste buds. The noodles were tasty, the shrimps were decent-sized, and I only wished there was more of it. Definitely my favorite dish of the meal.
The Crying Tiger Beef was raved about on Yelp, and although it was good, it wasn’t that great. The beef was grilled nicely, but the spicy sauce had a little bit too much kick for my liking.
All in all, it was definitely one of the better meals that we’ve had in Mountain View. The location is a little bit random given that there are a bunch of Hispanic restaurants and shops in the strip mall. However, once you walk inside the space has a clean, modern look. It definitely seems to be going for more of a chi chi style Thai rather than traditional Thai, and I guess the prices are kind of commiserate with that vibe. Given the proportions and prices of the servings though, this doesn’t go on to my list of “go to” dining places after I get off the train.
