Dinner after Lusk

25 Lusk
Dining Room

Interestingly enough, even though this place is just down the street from where I live, I had never gotten around to having dinner here.  The space is actually really cool and hip, but until today, I had only visited the lounge area downstairs for happy hour drinks.  The main dining room is upstairs, and although it isn’t that well lit, you can still see how beautifully designed the space is.  It looks like they’ve retained the original brick interior and added modern elements throughout including the lighting and fixtures.

Bay Scallop in Piquillo Pepper Soup

The amuse bouche was a spoonful of piquillo pepper soup with a tiny bay scallop.  It was a nice tasty bite to set the tone for the meal.

Seared Diver Scallop

The scallop was nicely seared and well-seasoned.  It sat on a bed of lettuce lightly drizzled in a subtly acidic dressing.  I haven’t felt the same way toward scallops lately, so unfortunately, I couldn’t really eat much of this dish, tasty as it was.

Raw Tuna

I decided to forgo the tuna since it seemed a little bit on the bland side. Pdho said it was pretty decent though.

Chicken Fried Quail

I was quite surprised by how tasty the Chicken Fried Quail turned out to be.  it was noticeably much smaller than your typical chicken, but it was also pretty moist and tender.  I actually enjoyed it.

Grilled Louisiana Prawns

The prawns had a nice smokey taste with a little bit of a spicy kick.  Pdho really enjoyed this dish.

Vanilla Lime Posset

This dessert is very hard to see from the picture, because as the night wore on, the lighting got dimmer and dimmer.  This was a slightly tart pudding with bits of fruits.  It was a clean and refreshing end to the meal.

Overall, I really enjoyed the meal.  Admittedly, I didn’t have very high expectations, because I assumed that the restaurant might be all show with no substance.  In addition, most restaurants in the neighborhood tend to be all chi chi in terms of ambiance, but the food never seems to live up .  In this case, I was pretty happy, but I’m not sure if it would be worth coming back.  Maybe for some special occasion, but for an everyday meal, it’s still a little too expensive to make it worthwhile.
