I took a little hiatus for a couple years and went and had twins, so you can imagine how full my hands have been. However, I plan on coming back soon. It turns out I had a few entries that I never got to post…. so even though I wrote this post almost 2 years ago, it’s going to be new to you!

Keiko à Nob Hill

MC Golfer invited us to come check out a new restaurant that opened up recently called Keiko à Nob Hill.  He was a frequent diner at the chef/proprietor’s former restaurant, El Paseo in Mill Valley so he had some glowing reviews.  The restaurant is situated along a very quiet, residential stretch in Nob Hill, and it even looks like it’s inside a residential condo building.  Once you step in, it feels very old school like a private men’s club from back in the day with dark paneled walls and plush chairs. Admittedly, the crowd, at least that night, also seemed to skew a little older, but according to MC Golfer, it makes sense between the neighborhood and their loyal clientele.

We ended up sitting in the lounge which serves a more casual a la carte menu where as the main dining room serves a prix fixe menu.  However, since MC Golfer is pretty tight with the chef, sommelier (both of whom are the owners) and wait staff, we were able to order from both menus much to the envy of the couple sitting next to us. =)

Unfortunately, the lighting wasn’t very good, so as the night went on, the pictures didn’t turn out as well as I would have hoped.  It’s been a few months between eating and blogging, so I can’t remember all the details.  Rather than ramble non-specifically about how fantastic the food was, I will just let the pictures speak for themselves.  Needless to say, the food really was delicious.  It was distinctly French technique with very subtle Japanese sensibilities, so everything was prepared and executed with a lighter hand and an Eastern twist.  The prix fixe menu is notably French, but the lounge menu is a refined take on more typical Japanese dishes.  Both are equally delicious.
