Bouchon’s Fried Chicken

Most people who have heard of Thomas Keller’s casual eateries like Bouchon and Ad Hoc are familiar with his delectably tasting fried chicken.  Living in the Bay Area, Ad Hoc is the place to go to for the fried chicken, but they only serve it on specific days, and I just don’t have the time to work around their schedule like that.  So when Triple T made a reservation at Bouchon on the night they were going to be serving their fried chicken dinner and it happened to coincide with when we were going to be home for the holidays, I was excited for the chance to finally give this fried chicken a test drive.

We arrived just a few minutes after our reservation time and my brother told me that we JUST missed Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes who were finished with dinner and walking out of the restaurant!  Dangit!!! Oh well.  It was my brother and his wife, Root Canal Man and Triple T, my sister-in-law, Sdho, Pdho, and their cousin, TB. We got seated pretty quickly and proceeded to order a couple fried chicken dinners and a few other dishes amongst us.

Fried Chicken

The lighting was not so good in the restaurant, so the pictures do not do the food justice.  The fried chicken really was very flavorful and unctuous.  It wasn’t oily as you can sometimes expect with deep-fried goodness, but the outer batter still had a nice crispiness to it.

Steak Frites

The steak was very well-cooked and with a nice pat of butter, tasted quite sinfully delicious, but it was the frites that I thoroughly enjoyed most from this dish.  The potatoes were thin, crisp and hot out of the fryer.

Bread Pudding

We were pretty full, but the Bread Pudding sounded too delicious to pass up, and we decided to order one for the table.  It ended up being more than enough.  The ice cream balanced the caramelized bread pudding topping making the dessert as a whole absolutely delicious without being overpoweringly sweet. A perfect end to the meal.

Overall, the food was absolutely delicious.  I have to admit that I didn’t eat as much as I usually would mainly because my stomach doesn’t have the capacity it used to seeing as there are growing babies inside me and all.  However, what I did get to eat was fantastic.
